went here with my family on Christmas Eve. We were a big party with three separate tables so they accommodated us and let us come in early. I had steak and it was delicious. Everything else looked good too. Yes this place is a little older, but I think it's great and the little bar in front is cute.

Overall enjoyed our experience here with only 2 small hiccups 1 of rice in sushi tasting off, but they removed it so problem resolved. 2nd is Hot Tea served in pint glass...not the best, especially since it got cold really fast. Chef was great, fun and made the food perfect. Service from wait staff was great too so enjoyed that. Tips, definitely make a reservation as this place gets packed. We didn't even have that early of a dinner and still had a small wait. Typical for tepenyaki especially since there is only certain number of grills. You plan for this, you won't be disappointed. Great food, great service, will be back again

Showed up because it was my mother in laws birthday. Bit of a requirement to be open minded since to fill one table they sit you down next to other strangers. For me it was not bad , I've done that before, the chef was good at making rice , steak was wonderful. Shrimp was decent, vegetables were good. Overall it was good food, but the fans make it loud. Hard to talk sometimes. I didn't find it too bad because people go for a show. Restroom door could use new paint but it was graffiti free. Bit of a bummer that the place is only open on weekends. Perhaps a need for offering something else during the week. I liked it, I will return next time my in laws decide to bring me along, could use a bit of fine tuning. 4.5 /5

Rather than not able of getting a reservation last minute, a close second best is to get your meal orders togo and enjoy teppanyaki at home.

Teppanyaki experiences are so fun! I've been seeing more and more people hire chefs for private backyard parties, weddings, and more. Purchasing a teppanyaki grill or flat grill is also super popular right now, people taking action to wow their guests from the comfort of their own home! Family-owned and operated since 1979, Hana Japan has 2 locations in the East Bay ~ Dublin and Berkeley. Most recently we went to the Dublin location. Upon entry while waiting for a table you can snag a drink at the bar ~ beer/wine, sake, and speciality cocktails. As far as starters, we had a large party and wanted to save room for the main event, so we went with the calamari & chicken gyoza potstickers ~ both a perfect, light snack. What I love is that each entree comes with soup, salad, rice (we always upgrade to fried rice), veggies, and your choice of a protein. Proteins range from chicken, steak, shrimp, lobster, salmon, and mixing 2 together for a combo. For those that have never experienced this before I won't share too much of the surprise, but you do have a personal table chef cooking your food live in front of you and serving you straight from grill to plate. Fresh, fun, and super yummy! Hearty portions, enthusiastic service, dinner & a show, you can't go wrong (worth the extra splurge on occasion). We had our young nephews with us & just seeing their eyes and faces light up watching the chef's knife skills and fun commentary throughout is something I know they will be talking about for quite some time! Reservations suggested. There's plenty of parking & a special menu for the kiddos. Pro tip: birthdays get a special discount!

The food was great and the vibes were high. It was surprisingly pretty crowded on a random Wednesday night. The free birthday meal only counts if you have a party of four or more. It's expensive but worthwhile for a fun, interactive experience and special occasion. The bartender was so friendly (I forget her name unfortunately), as were the other staff members. The only downside was that it was super smokey in the hibachi room. I feel like someone needed to crack a window or turn a fan on. Someone in our party has a respiratory condition and they couldn't stop coughing with all the smoke. We unfortunately had to take our food to the bar by the door. It was still a wonderful experience and probably would be fine if no one has underlying respiratory conditions but I just wanted to flag in case anyone else is in the same boat and wants to be mindful about their restaurant choice!
